EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Before sitting for the ABC C.Ped exam, candidates must meet specific educational prerequisites, which include:
Completion of a minimum of a high school diploma or GED.
Successful completion of an ABC-approved pedorthic pre-certification course, such as the 10-day Sidas Academy & RMPI course, which includes both classroom instruction and hands-on lab training.
PRE-CERTIFICATION COURSE CURRICULUM
This structured program covers key areas required for competency in pedorthics, including:
Foot Anatomy & Biomechanics – Understanding foot structure, gait mechanics, and common pathologies.
Pedorthic Assessment – Patient evaluation, foot measurements, and gait analysis.
Orthotic Design & Fabrication – Custom and off-the-shelf footwear modifications, casting techniques, and orthotic manufacturing.
Material Science – In-depth knowledge of orthotic materials, their applications, and durability.
Patient Management & Fitting Techniques – Selection, fitting, and adjustments of pedorthic devices.
Medical Conditions & Footwear Solutions – Addressing diabetic foot care, arthritis, and sports-related injuries.
Clinical & Ethical Standards – Adhering to ABC guidelines, professional ethics, and healthcare regulations.
1,000-HOUR INTERNSHIP REQUIREMENT
In addition to completing the 10-day precertification course, candidates must fulfill a 1,000-hour internship under the supervision of a ABC-certified C.Ped, orthotist, or prosthetist.

CERTIFICATION PROCESS
- Upon completing both the pre-certification course and a 1,000-hour internship, candidates become eligible to take the ABC Certified Pedorthist Exam, which includes both written and practical components to assess competency in patient care and technical skills.
