What is Bootfitting?

Bootfitting is much more than just a simple boot adjustment. Above all, it’s a story of empathy, listening, and dialogue. It means understanding the skier and their needs, knowing how to analyze their feet, and adapting every component to the athlete. It’s a holistic approach that starts from the foot and moves toward comfort solutions.

When Bootfitting changes a life

Description

Sometimes, Bootfitting goes far beyond technical skills and is, above all, a human adventure:

“It was a long time ago. One day, a man came to see us. He had been in a severe motorcycle accident, leaving him with a very unusual foot and a huge scar on his leg. I had never seen anything like it. With tears in his eyes, he told me: ‘My dream is to ski the Vallée Blanche one last time. Do you think it’s possible?’

I looked at his foot, his leg… The bootfitting challenge was immense. There was a colossal amount of work to do. I jumped in and spent 25 hours working on it, without really being sure I’d succeed.

A few weeks later, he came back to see me, misty-eyed, with a bottle of champagne in hand.
He did it. He skied down the Vallée Blanche. At that moment, I felt immense pride. It’s one of my fondest memories. That’s when you realize that this job is, above all, a passion. The look in his eyes, his gratitude… it’s worth all the gold in the world.”

What is Bootfitting?

Bootfitting is a term associated with skiing. It is a series of steps designed to find the most suitable ski boot for the customer. The idea is simple: start with the foot through analysis, then progressively determine the comfort solutions suited to the skier’s needs and goals. It also includes all the work carried out on the shell and liner, such as shell modification, grinding and heat moulding. This helps prevent pressure points and discomfort inside the boot.

Which parts of a ski boot can be modified in bootfitting?

In bootfitting, a ski boot can be modified in different ways depending on the customer’s needs. It is possible to reshape certain areas such as the ankle bones or toe box by heating and pushing the plastic. In other cases, the inside of the shell can also be ground down at the ankle bones, heel, or navicular area. This solution is generally reserved for racing boots, which are made of thicker plastic.

Is bootfitting useful even for a good skier?

Yes. Even an experienced skier can benefit from bootfitting. A properly fitted boot improves comfort, reduces fatigue, and allows you to ski more efficiently and for longer. It also helps improve precision and therefore performance.

Who is bootfitting for?

Bootfitting is for skiers of all levels, from beginners to experts, who want to improve the comfort of their ski boots, reduce pain, and enjoy skiing more.
